Woven Walls

Weis Preijde Handmade 'Walls' of Thread (2)

So this is what life would look like if you wanted your home to be a living doodle. These handmade ‘walls’ of thread were created by Dutch designer Weis Preijde, patterned to create spaces that appear as if they are popping off a page. Inspired by patterns, textures and shapes encountered in everyday life, Preijde designed the semi-transparent partitions to overlap and create new patterns and colors. The end result is an interesting holographic effect.

Dream Office

Whether you work from an office office, a home office, or even a home sofa-office I’m guessing there’s always that dream office that’s floating around in your head. I currently work from a home office (sometimes even from the home sofa-office) and I will say I love it (most of the time). I’ve always had a designated room for my home office, although my last one was much much larger than my current one, and before that I worked in an office office. Making the transition to freelance was definitely a challenge, in many ways, but one of the most important things for me in that transition was to have a space purely designated for work. My office office life was when I was with the design firm, which included three office moves in total. First office to second landed me here…

Then here…

When it came to my home office, I couldn’t really compete, nor did I want to, but I did do the best with what I had. Previous loft home office was great. There was tons of storage, workspace, high ceilings, natural light, an outdoor deck, even a place to take a siesta. Now in SF small apartment city living, it’s been a challenge moving into an 8’x8′ space with the addition of an office pantry for my library and supplies, but it’s working out great so far. Sure, I still daydream about the perfect office, especially when the pups are really bugging me, and it goes a little something like this…

I hope to one day have my dream office, which may be at my home or a space that is just down the street from my home. Until then, I’m happy to be where I am.

Cole & Sons Flamingo Wallpaper

I’m slightly obsessed with flamingos at the moment. It all started after I saw this fabric that I will hopefully be using somewhere somehow in the near future. Flamingo decor can definitely go cheesy Palm Beach style if used in the wrong way, but actually, is there anything wrong with that?

Year of the Headboard

Eclectic Colorful Pattern Print Mix Stripes Toile Bedding

This is the year! The year I finally get a headboard! Here’s the thing, I’ve been wanting to DIY my headboard ever since moving into this apartment (it’s been a bit over a year now), but as with many DIY projects, I’ve procrastinated because there’s some major jerry-rigging that needs to happen. My bed sits in front of a window so there will be no installing of the headboard into the walls, so I’m a little befuddled as to how I’m going to do this. I have this bed from Ikea which is completely functional and hidden by my current bedding, but how does this bed marry the headboard?? Some professional help may need to be enlisted. Either way, a headboard is going to happen…this is the year!

Pattern Play with Emerald

Apparently, emerald is the color of the year for 2013. I rarely pay attention to the color of the year, but emerald happens to be one of my all time favorite colors (and my birthstone!) so I thought I would do a little pattern play.

New Chair and Footstools

I am beyond happy with how this chair turned out! You can see the before here. Of course, like always with all of my re-loved pieces, I want to keep it for myself, but it’s already prepped for delivery. Chair goes to the highest bidder!

And aren’t these footstools fun times?!?

DwellStudio Mod Color Theory Collection

Counting down the days until I can get my hands on DwellStudio’s Mod Color Theory collection for Robert Allen. Inspired by midcentury art and global crafts, these new prints and patterns marry warm textures and imperfect lines that feel so sophisticated and fresh. I think some of these patterns will be making an appearance on my sofa…and maybe some footstools!
